| Their four children were grown and out of the nest, and out of the nest, and security was a concern. The lot they chose seven years ago at the corner of Armstrong and Preston was selected for its high visibility and traffic flow. The Workmans enjoy watching the world drive past their windows each day, so few window treatments obstruct their view of the outside world passing by. It took three-and-a-half years to complete the construction drawings created by Tom and his architect partners, D.C. Broadstone and Scot Hadley. In the meantime, Jane Ann began making selections for the interior materials, textures, and colors with the assistance of Dallas designer Rose Agostini. Architec/designer Bryan McMinn collaborated on custom-crafted wood furniture, chandeliers, wood hardware, and other items. Daughter Aerin Hathaway Benavides, who lives in Peru, crafted ceramic pieces to place on the expansive shelves that run high across each wall-a warmth trick, says Tom, to keep the space intimate and to prevent the home's soaring ceilings from seeming overwhelming. | ||
